Privacy and cookies
This page explains which personal data is processed when you visit this site or write to us, and why. Last updated: October 2026.
Data controller
This site is run on a private basis by the Béguin family as part of their self-build straw-bale house project in Switzerland. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights, please use the contact form.
Hosting
The site is hosted in Switzerland by Infomaniak. Each time a page is requested, the server automatically records technical data (IP address, date and time, pages viewed, browser type) in connection logs. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working properly, and are kept by the host for a limited period.
Contact form
If you write to us via the Contact page, we process the data you enter: last name, first name, email address and message.
- Purpose: to reply to your message.
- Transmission: your message is sent to us by email. It is not published and is not passed on to third parties for commercial purposes.
- Retention: for as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted, unless longer retention is necessary.
To limit abuse, your IP address is briefly used to limit the number of submissions (a technical fingerprint kept for one hour at most).
A session cookie (les_beguin_contact) is set when you use the form. It protects the submission against forged requests, is strictly necessary for the form to work, is not used for advertising or statistics, and is deleted when you close your browser.
Cloudflare Turnstile (anti-bot check)
The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell human visitors from bots. When the form loads, your browser connects to Cloudflare’s servers, which receive in particular your IP address and technical information about your browser. This service is loaded only on the Contact page. For details, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
YouTube videos
The Media page offers videos hosted by YouTube (Google). They are not loaded automatically: only a preview image, hosted on this site, is displayed. As long as you do not click “Play video”, no data is sent to YouTube. If you play a video, your browser connects to YouTube’s servers (domain youtube-nocookie.com), which receive your IP address and may set cookies or other trackers. This data may be processed outside Switzerland, in particular in the United States. For details, see Google’s privacy policy.
Audience measurement (Matomo)
To find out how many people visit the site and which pages interest them, we use Matomo, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves at Infomaniak in Switzerland (stats.les-beguin.ch). The data is not passed on to any third party and is not used for advertising.
- No cookies: Matomo sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
- Data collected: pages viewed, date and time, referring site, language, device and browser type, approximate country.
- Anonymised IP address: it is truncated before being recorded, so you cannot be identified.
- Retention: detailed data is deleted after 6 months; only aggregated statistics (for example the number of visits per month) are kept.
If you disable JavaScript or use a content blocker, no measurement takes place.
Other cookies and trackers
The site uses no advertising and no embedded social networks. Apart from the contact form cookie and the YouTube videos described above (only if you play them), no cookies are set. If other tools were added, this page would be updated and, where necessary, your consent would be requested beforehand.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for visitors concerned, the GDPR, you may request access to your data, ask for it to be corrected or erased, object to its processing or request that it be restricted. To do so, write to us via the contact form.
You may also lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC): edoeb.admin.ch.
