Kittens and facade preparation

May started with a surprise: when we opened a big bag of straw in the house, we found two kittens! A nice little break before getting back to work on the second coat of interior plaster.

But the main goal at the moment has changed: we are tackling the preparation of the exterior walls. Before applying the lime plaster, the surface has to be prepared. We start with “capping” the wall. It is a big job that keeps us busy every weekend: we have to cover the timber parts with Gutex (wood fibre board) so that the lime can grip, then apply a first bonding coat.

The constraint? The weather. Over the last few weekends, we have had to take the tarp off and put it back on the house three times! We take it off in the morning to work, and put it back on in the evening to protect the straw from the rain. It is tedious, but necessary.
