Article 7: Setting up the site: the awning becomes our HQ
In October, we have to get ready to welcome the volunteers. We pick up an old caravan from a campsite in Yverdon, together with its awning. It is useful for having a sheltered place to eat and store tools.
Setting up takes longer than expected: moving the caravan and putting up the awning is no small job. But once it is in place, it is really practical. We have a real rallying point for the site.
The dry toilets
At the same time, we build the site’s dry toilets with the volunteers. It is simple: a stainless steel bucket, sawdust, and that’s it. A good way to start before tackling the construction of the walls.

Adjusting the schedule
The initial schedule changes a little. The preparatory work is taking longer than expected. In the end, we decide to start making the cassettes at Christophe’s on Friday, and to start the straw walls on site on Wednesday 30 October.
Good signs
The volunteers are showing up, and that is encouraging. Even a few architecture firms are showing interest in discovering this building technique. The energy is there.
