Site routine: one wall a day

After the improvements to the press, we reach an impressive pace: one wall a day for the big ones, two for the small ones.

What seemed complex becomes routine. The teams now understand the process, and their movements are efficient. What we have learned translates into productivity gains.

There are 18 walls to make for the first house. One wall a day means about 18 days for all the filling.

The weights involved

The big 4-metre walls weigh around 500 kilos once filled, the others between 200 and 400 kilos. To move them, we roll them on steel tubes. With three people and good coordination, it is easy.

The persuader

We also use the persuader, a big mass that helps us “persuade” the straw bales to go into the frame. It is simple and very effective for aligning the bales properly in the wall.

Progress in parallel

Meanwhile, work is moving along at Christophe’s too. The cassettes for the walls and windows are almost finished. The roof and floor cassettes remain, but that will go quickly.
